2013 Membership

Hempsals Community Farm Members 2011
Hempsals Community Farm is a CSA project set up by Ben and Emma Tregenna just outside the village of Willingham, near Cambridge. We have 5 acres of farmland that we use for growing fruit and vegetables and keeping pigs, goats, geese, turkeys, chickens, ducks, and bees. Our vision is of a community growing scheme where committed members bring together a variety of skills and ideas to share in the both the risks and benefits of the harvest. With a community farm, we can all share in keeping different types of livestock and growing a variety of produce that would be very hard to achieve individually in back gardens or on allotments.

We are very excited to announce that we have a few openings for new members to join us for the coming year. Most of our members from last year are renewing but we are looking to extend the scheme to a total of 20 families and so some vacancies have become available.

We are offering three types of membership this year, a full share, a half share and a vegetarian share.
A full share includes:

  • A weekly veg box once the new year’s produce is available. (estimated from May to December)
  • A half dozen eggs (both chicken and duck available) each week, starting from March
  • A whole pig (i.e two half pigs during the calendar year)
  • A Christmas bird (either turkey or goose)
  • Goats milk, cheese and honey as available
  • A commitment of two work sessions per calendar month minimum from each family.
  • A monthly subscription of £65

A half share consists of:

  • A fortnightly veg box once the new year’s produce is available. (estimated from May to December)
  • A half dozen eggs (both chicken and duck available) every fortnight starting from March
  • Half a pig pig
  • A Christmas bird (either turkey or goose)
  • Goats milk, cheese and honey as available
  • A commitment of two work sessions per calendar month minimum from each family.
  • A monthly subscription of £45

A vegetarian share includes:

  • A weekly veg box once the new year’s produce is available. (estimated from May to December)
  • A half dozen eggs (both chicken and duck available) each week, starting from March
  • 4 pints of goats milk a week
  • Goats cheese and honey as available
  • A commitment of two work sessions per calendar month minimum from each family.
  • A monthly subscription of £35

Membership offers a number of other advantages and experiences, in the past two year our members have built a beehive, pig arks, numerous poultry coops, a cider press and a cold smoker. We’ve also tried brewing our own beer, ploughing and making scarecrows with the kids. There are also plenty of social events including monthly ‘bring and share’ lunches and an annual hog roast. We also run a number of groups who take a special interest in particular areas of the farm, these include goats, bees, fruit and veg, preserving (jam making etc.), brewing, childrens activities etc.

We also have a ‘Friends‘ scheme which enables people to get involved on a more flexible basis and purchase surplus produce from the farm.

If you’d like to find out more about joining us on the farm, please do get in touch by sending an email to join@hempsalsfarm.com to arrange a visit on one of our Saturday workdays.
