Chickens
We have a number of small flocks of chickens at the farm. Our main laying flock are Light Sussex. We usually have around 15 hens, led by our fantastic cockerel, Jeeves.
We are also building up a smaller flock of Cuckoo Marans who lay lovely dark brown eggs although less prolifically than the Light Sussex and they are also better for the table. We also have a flock of ex-battery hens and other commercial hybrids that we have been donated who are looked after by Dipper, a Speckeldy Cockerel. Dipper can be a bit protective of his girls and their pen (tucked away in a corner of the orchard) should only be approached with care!
